Itnow looks as if there will be a by election in Glasgow North East. Mr Martin's official spokesperson has just said that he will stand down as an MP too.

I was a member of Springburn Constituency Labour Party in the 1980s when Michael Martin had a majority of 23000, I think the biggest in Scotland.
ReplyDeleteAt that time Papa Doc Martin, as one wag dubbed him, ruled the roost by being both the MP AND the constituency treasurer (useful for membership control), employing his spouse and grooming his son Paul (Baby Doc Martin) for eventual take over.
One thing for certain by-election or no, Baby Doc MSP will not now be standing on the Labour ticket.
